William Burns was married to Sarah Jane Walker Jackson on the 27th November 1908 in Bessbrook Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Thomas Doey. At the time of the wedding his occupation was given as a junior finisher and hers as a weaver, the witnesses were Thomas McKelvey and Anna Jackson. Their son Leslie was born on 13th November 1909 and baptised in Bessbrook Presbyterian Church on 24th February 1910 by the Rev. Thomas Doey, William's occupation is given as finisher.
They emigrated to the United States of America, sailing from Liverpool on the 6th July 1910 on the 'Haverford' and entered Philadelphia on the 18th July 1910. William's occupation is listed as linen finisher, Jeannie's as housewife, for some reason Leslie is listed as James. Their address is listed as the Masonic Hall, Bessbrook. William's brother John had paid their fare and they were going to his address at 322 Ford Street, Rossman [Rosslyn] Heights, Carnegie, Pennsylvania. A friend of John's an Augustus Bell travelled with them, he was a pattern maker, originally from Glenavy, Co. Antrim and had been in America for four years. They lived for a year in Pittsburg, Pennsylvannia with the family of his brother John, before moving to Greenwich, New York.
In Greenwich William obtained work in the Dunbarton Linen Mill, where he worked for over 40 years.Their daughter Olive was born in Greenwich on 11th February 1917. They were both naturalized in 1918.
Jeannie died on 15th August 1945 (Obituary), whereas William died on 28th January 1961.
