The Death of Mrs Jean Chester 1966
DEATH OF MRS. JEAN CHESTER, SANDYS STREET, NEWRY
Mrs. Jean Chester who died last week at her residence, 19, Sandys Street, Newry was the widow of Major S. C. R. Chester, O.B.E., and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Acheson Littlewood.
Her death took place suddenly at her residence, although she had been in failing health for some time.
Mrs. Chester served during, the two World Wars (1914-18, 1939-1945) as a Nurse. She was a member of the British Legion Women's Section, Newry Branch.
Mrs. Chester was also a member of the Committee of the Newry Women's Unionist Association, also taking an active interest in various charitable organizations.
The funeral took place to St. Patrick's Churchyard.
Rev. R. S. Peters, M.A., Vicar of Newry officiated in the service held in the home, the Church and the graveside.
The cortege was met at the church gates by Mrs. G. Gibson, standard-bearer, with standard of the Women's Section of the British Legion, who also provided a guard of honour at the entrance to the church.
Members of the Newry Branch of the British Legion Men’s Section acted as pallbearers.

Dicken, Carrickfergus; Wm. Hanna S. Hanna, G. Reid, junr., N McElroy, T. Hayes, R. G. Crawford, D. Maxwell, W. McGaffin (relatives).
